La Máquina Lazer Gran Santiago, born as Máquina de Ocio, is a project born through the study of infrastructures for sport and culture, based directly on the modern thinking established by Le Corbusier in ''Vers une Architecture'' and the visualisation of the mechanical concepts that revolutionised the world, exemplified by Jacques Tati in two of his most acclaimed works ''Mon Oncle'' and ''Playtime'', where the machine of inhabitation goes beyond the frontiers of the modern world.
that revolutionised the world, exemplified by Jacques Tati in two of his most acclaimed works ''Mon Oncle'' and ''Playtime'', where the machine of inhabiting goes beyond the boundaries of the dwelling to contemplate a complete urbanisation.
In this way, and as a product of the socio-political movements that characterised the global society, the localisation approach focuses on South America and specifically on Chile, as leisure spaces were mechanised through political control measures, in which the American and Brazilian influence marks the question.
and Brazilian influence, begs the question.
If we were able to replicate the commercial leisure system 'Mall' of Sao Paulo (Brazil), in which sector of Greater Santiago (Chile) could a model appear that is directly associated with its Welfare policy realised in the 'SESC'?
The importance of the Social Service of commerce 'SESC' are more than a direct answer to the social problems of the first third in Brazil during the 20th century, they are nowadays a programmatic, social and architectural reference at a global level, mainly developed in abandoned infrastructures.
due to the social movements of the time, later recognised for their architectural boom in the second half of the 20th century, providing spaces, moments and experiences that characterise the 'SESC' as true leisure spaces and not as commercial centres that entertain the population.
the population.
Creating in this way, in a disparate sector within the metropolitan region of Santiago, Puente Alto. The project ''Maquina Lazer'' as a leisure and cultural centre for the Chilean population.
